Inserting nail into a brick wall requires the correct procedure and tools.
There are many reasons why you may want to insert a nail into a brick wall. The nail can be used to hang a picture or to secure decorations, such as Christmas lights. Using a hammer to pound the nail into the brick is not an option because the nail will chip the brick and will not hold. But a nail can be inserted into a brick wall if you use the proper procedure and tools.
Instructions
1. Mark the wall in the desired location with a grease pencil. Be sure of the location before you drill to avoid making unnecessary holes in the wall.
2. Install a masonry bit into the chuck at the end of the drill. The bit should be the same diameter as the nail and no bigger. Depending on the drill you have, the chuck may open and close by hand or it may turn with a key.
3. Hold the trigger part of the drill in your dominant hand and place your other hand under the front, just in back of the chuck. Place the bit just over the mark on the wall and pull the trigger. Guide the drill directly into the wall, over the spot. Ensure that the bit is at a 90-degree angle to the wall so the hole is straight. Drill the hole to the desired depth and pull the bit out while the bit is still turning.
4. Spray the nail and the hole with a lubricant to reduce the amount of friction when the nail is inserted into the wall.
5. Insert the nail into the hole and tap it gently with a hammer to set it in place.
