Mudding drywall joints
Fiberglass joint tape is used to cover the joints in drywall. After the drywall is secured to the joists, the joints are all taped and the plaster is applied to cover the tape. There are other types of drywall seam tape other than fiberglass but they all work basically the same. All supplies needed to drywall can be found at your local home improvement store.
Instructions
1. Open the bucket of mud and mix it until it's an even consistency. Begin applying it generously to the joints in the wall. Completely cover each joint making the mud at least 6 inches wide over the joints.
2. Unroll the fiberglass tape and cut it the length of the joint using scissors. Starting in the middle of the first joint, apply the tape to the mud by holding the putty knife at a 45-degree angle and dragging it over the tape as you go. When the first half is secured, apply the second half of the tape to the joint. Cover all joints this way.
3. Apply a thin coat of mud over the tape using the putty knife. The tape should be completely covered with an even layer of mud, but the mud should be thin enough to see the tape underneath.
4. Sand the mud smooth using 300-grit sandpaper on a sanding block.
