Attach Curtain Rods To Some Block Wall

Concrete block walls are hollow inside.

Hanging a curtain rod on a concrete block wall requires masonry anchors designed for concrete. Regular screws will not penetrate the concrete. The masonry anchors also provide a mushrooming sleeve that keep the anchor from coming out of the wall after you hang the curtains. Install the anchors with a hammer drill. Aside from the use of concrete-specific equipment, the installation does not differ greatly from installing curtain rods on a regular drywall surface.

Instructions

1. Open the curtain rod to the length you desire and hold them in position above the window. Mark the spot on either side of the window where you want to install the curtain rod brackets. If your curtains sit above the window, you may need a third bracket in the middle of the rod.

2. Take the screws that came with your curtain rod brackets to the hardware store and purchase the same number of metal sleeve anchors. The anchors should also have the same diameter and length as the screws.

3. Insert a drill bit that is the same diameter as the metal sleeve anchors into the hammer drill. Set the hammer drill to hammer mode. Set the depth gauge to the length of the anchors.

4. Drill pilot holes in each of the spots you marked: That is where you will secure the curtain-rod brackets. Blow out each hole with a can of compressed air to clear the dust out of the hole.

5. Hold the first curtain-rod bracket over the first hole. Insert the first metal sleeve anchor into the hole in the fixture and into the wall. Tap the head of the anchor with a hammer until it is flush against the bracket surface. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nut on the anchor head three to four times. Repeat this with the middle bracket, if you have one, and the end bracket.

6. Slip the curtain over the curtain rod, and lower the rod into the brackets. Tighten the screws in the bracket arms to secure the rod in place, if your brackets come with screws.
