Diy Basement Floor Progressing

If you want to cover your cement basement floor with carpet, vinyl, wood or any other flooring, it’s important that the cement be flat and level. The concrete may be cracked or have dips and valleys in it that will alter the surface of the flooring. Liquid floor leveler is a form of cement in a thin, almost liquid form that spreads out and finds its own level. The trick is to determine where you need to pour it.

Instructions

1. Mix a cup of TSP in about a gallon of warm water. Mix it well. Put on your rubber gloves. Scrub the concrete surface thoroughly, getting up all dirt, oil and any loose material. Rinse it with a sponge-mop. Let it dry for a full 24 hours.

2. Lay your board over the edge of the floor near one wall. Begin moving it out over the floor to determine where the low spots are. Where you see gaps under the board, draw wide encompassing circles on the concrete. Repeat and continue over the whole floor, in sections, marking off every low area.

3. Open your premixed liquid floor leveler and mix it well.

4. Starting at the far corner from the entrance, pour it carefully over the areas you marked out. Pour slowly, giving the liquid time to spread out and fill the low spots. Fill any cracks or holes as well. If the leveler bunches up anywhere and doesn’t seem to be leveling out, run the edge of the board over it to smooth it out; otherwise, let it level itself.

5. Let the leveler set for 48 hours. The floor is now ready for flooring material.
