Remove Contact Cement From Drywall

Remove Contact Cement from Drywall

Contact cement is designed to provide instant long-term bonding of practically any material to practically any surface. Once something is adhered with contact cement, it is virtually impossible to remove. However, products have been designed to help remove contact cement from drywall and other surfaces. By using one of these products and a little elbow grease, your drywall will be contact cement free in no time.

Instructions

1. Protect the floor. Lay a drop cloth or plastic sheeting on the ground so no product damages the floor.

2. Cover the contact cement on the wall with heavy-duty adhesive remover. Use a paintbrush and cover the contact cement thoroughly with adhesive remover and allow to sit for 30 minutes.

3. Scrape the contact cement from the drywall using a flexible scraper. Let the area dry.

4. Sand the drywall with fine-grit sandpaper, removing any remaining contact cement. Take care not to damage the drywall.
