Choose The Best Fresh paint For Interior Plaster Walls And Roofs

Plaster walls were commonly used in all interior buildings through the 1930s and 1940s, according to U.S. National Park Service. If you live in a home made before the 1950s you probably have plaster interior walls. Plaster is a strong surface that creates a sound barrier in your home. While wallpaper was commonly used over plaster walls in the past, paint is most common nowadays. If you plan to paint plaster walls, select the proper types of paint for the job.

Instructions

1. Select a primer for your plaster walls. Pigmented shellac makes a good primer for plaster walls since it reduces possible moisture damage.

2. Repair any damages to the plaster wall with patching plaster or latex caulk. Dab the plaster onto larger holes and dab the caulk onto cracks in the plaster wall.

3. Paint over the repairs with another coat of pigmented shellac primer. Select a latex-based paint in any color you choose for the plaster walls. Flat paint shows fewer imperfections than glossy paint. Paint over the primer with a single coat of latex-based paint.
