Organic Methods To Kill Rodents In Garden

A natural mouse hunter.

Due to their destructive, unsanitary nature, mice are not welcome creatures in the garden. However, using harsh poisons can potentially cause even more damage to your soil, plants and crops. Employ methods that are free of chemicals to kill the mice in your garden naturally while also avoiding contaminating your garden and destroying your hard work.

Plaster

Create a mixture consisting of one part plaster of Paris and one part cornmeal. Pour the mixture into mice holes or place it in small dishes or feeders near areas where you see mice. The plaster will quickly harden after being moistened in a mouse’s digestive system, causing death.

Carbon Dioxide

Baking soda, when fed to mice, will react with stomach acid to create carbon dioxide. The reaction creates bubbling, significant swelling and eventual death. Mix baking soda with equal parts of flour and sugar to disguise it as a tasty treat. Place it in dishes or feeders around your garden.

Snapping Mousetraps

Traditional snapping mousetraps are a safe, clean way to kill mice. In these mousetraps, a hinged wire bar is pulled back and bait is placed on a trigger. Once the mouse makes contact with the bait and touches the trigger, the bar snaps shut, breaking the mouse's neck. To lure the mice to the traps, use cheddar cheese, peanut butter, greasy bacon scraps or lard. Electronic mousetraps, which zap the mouse, are also available.

Cat

One of the most natural ways to rid mice from your garden is with cats, who are instinctive hunters. Visit your humane society and ask about cats that staff members know are hunters. It is possible to train a younger cat to hunt mice using mice toys, showing them dead mice and rewarding them with treats when they do catch mice.
