Plaster dental molds are used in prosthetic dentistry.
Prosthetic dentistry is the branch of dentistry that focuses on restoring teeth through the use of crowns, bridges and replacement teeth. Dental molds are used to make a replica of the shape of your teeth so that dentists can accurately make crowns and other dental prosthetics. Dental molds can be created using impression material and plaster and form to the shape of your teeth to copy every detail.
Instructions
1. Use an impression tray to hold the impression material.
Clean and dry the impression tray. Fill the impression tray with an impression material such as PolySil Super Hydrophilic.
2. Use gauze to dry your teeth.
Dry your teeth with gauze. Place the impression tray in your mouth and bite down. Hold the impression tray in your mouth for a few minutes.
3. Remove the impression tray in one motion, making sure not to wiggle it or bump it on the teeth. This will allow the impression to come out with the best detail. Rinse the impression with water and a disinfectant such as Listerine.
4. Pour dental plaster into the impression to make the cast. Allow the plaster to harden and dry. Review the manufacturer's instructions for drying times, as different plasters take different amounts of time to cure.
