Because of the composition of drywall, you should only do tile projects on drywall that are relatively lightweight and small in scope. Otherwise the drywall may become stressed and flex, causing cracking and breakage of tile. Back splashes in kitchens are good examples of appropriate projects. You can purchase most of the supplies for this project at your local home improvement store, including the tile. Give yourself about a day to complete the project.
Instructions
1. Mix the tile adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions, making it slightly thicker so it will adhere to the drywall.
2. Apply the tile adhesive to the drywall using an adhesive trowel.
3. Press the tiles into the tile adhesive on the wall, using tile spacers to leave room for grout lines in between the tiles. This will be about 1/4 inch.
4. Allow it to dry completely before applying the grout.
5. Mix the grout in a bucket with water according to manufacturer's directions.
6. Using a grout float, apply grout to the tile covering all grout lines. Use a generous amount of grout.
7. Remove excess grout by running a dry sponge over the surface of the tile.
8. Dampen the sponge, and repeat the process of sponging off excess grout until you have a smooth, clean finish and filled in grout lines.
9. Allow it to dry completely.
