Buying flowers
direct can save you money.
Buying flowers directly from a flower grower or farm is an alternative to purchasing from a florist for your next gift or celebration. Buying direct is often an effective way to procure flowers at a wholesale price, especially if you are in need of a large volume of flowers.
Instructions
1. Determine the types of flowers that you wish to purchase for your flower arrangements. The downside to purchasing flowers direct is that most flower farms grow a specific, limited selection of certain flower types. This means that, rather than telling your florist what you want and having them search and acquire flowers, you will need to seek out different farms that carry the flowers you need for your arrangements.
2. Research flower wholesalers locally and online. If you are concerned with price, your best bet might be to find a local flower grower. This will allow you to save on shipping prices since you will be able to pick up (or even pick) the flowers directly from the grower's farm. You can do this by searching for local flower farms or checking your local paper for local flower wholesale advertisements. You may need to find your direct grower online. There are a dozens of flower wholesale companies that allow you to browse their flower inventories and submit orders online.
3. Make your selections and pay for your order. If you are buying online, you probably won't have any negotiating power when it comes to price. However, this method is convenient because it allows you to select the specific type and number of flowers that you need and you will be able to pay using a credit or debit card. You can also select a date to have your order shipped directly to your home or an event location. If you are purchasing from a local grower, you may be able to negotiate a price if you offer to cut and pick up flowers yourself. You should also inquire which payment options are available. Local growers may not have a credit card machine, which means that you will need to pay in cash or with a check.
