Use A Bath tub Grab Rail Positioning

Bathtub grab rails must be securely anchored in order to support a person's body weight.

A properly installed grab rail will be anchored to the wall well enough that people can use the bar to get into and out of the tub safely. Since the rail will support a portion of people's body weight on a regular basis, mounting it to wall studs will help ensure the rail stays securely in place. Rushing the mounting job so the rail is not well mounted could lead to serious injury -- or worse in the event that the rail separates from the wall while someone is using it.

Instructions

1. Use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall where you wish to install the grab rail. Place the grab rail against the wall stud in the location you desire, then mark the location of the screw holes on the wall using a marker.

2. Drill pilot holes in the location of each of the screw holes, making sure at least two of the screws holes on each end of the grab bar penetrate a stud. Insert drywall anchors into any pilot holes that do not go into a stud.

3. Coat the part of the grab rail that will be against the wall with bathroom caulk. Place the grab rail against the wall, lining up the pilot holes with the holes in the grab rail.

4. Drive the screws through the holes in the grab rail and into the pilot holes until the screw heads are flush with the grab bar. Wipe away any caulk that spreads out of the joint using a rag.

5. Slide the covers on the rail over the mounting screws. Pull on the bar using your body weight to make sure it is firmly anchored to the wall.
