Make An Arch Drywall Window

An archway window could become the focal point of your home, and you don't even have to pay a professional to install it for you. Finishing drywall can be a challenging undertaking, but if you take the time to do this project yourself, you will learn a valuable skill. While drywall finishing is messy, it can also be enjoyable. A tremendous benefit to drywall finishing for beginners is that you can continue to sand and reapply drywall compound until you have the result you are looking for. You do not have to get it right the first time.

Instructions

1. Frame the window to the desired height and width using 2x4 lumber.

2. Using a miter saw, cut 45-degree cuts on the ends of the lumber, and attach to the initial frame to create the desired scope of the arch.

3. Attach 1/2-inch drywall to the wall framing, and cut out the window opening with a drywall router or saw.

4. Attach the 1/4 drywall to inside of window framing, bending it to form to the arch.

5. Staple the drywall archway corner bead to the archway.

6. Apply drywall joint compound to both sides of the corner bead using drywall taping knife, and allow it to dry.

7. Sand the first coat of joint compound, apply drywall topping compound, and allow it to dry.

8. Sand the coat of topping compound, and apply another coat if necessary until the result is smooth and blended into the wall.
