Make Hot Dirt For Drywall Repairs

Hot mud is a chemical compound used in home repair to fix drywall. The mixture has glue in it, which means it is useful to fill in large holes. Hot mud comes in different drying lengths ranging from 5 to 90 minutes. This short dry time is both a good and bad thing. Its nice for quick repairs; but if you don't finish before the compound dries it's hard to reverse or change the work. Hot mud comes in powder form and you make it by mixing in water.

Instructions

1. Choose a hot mud that gives you enough time to complete your project. A 90-minute drying time is recommended for most beginners.

2. Fill a plastic pan with water. The mixture you make is one part water to two parts hot mud, so decide on the amount you need to make before you pour in the water.

3. Pour in twice the amount of hot mud as water.

4. Stir the mixture until smooth with a paint mixer. Mix for about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the lumps but don't over-mix because this decreases the setting time which gives you less time to complete your job. Adjust the mixture as needed. Add more water to make the mixture thinner or more hot mud to make it thicker.
