When you go to lay tile, wood, vinyl or any other top-flooring, the first issue is that the subfloor is flat and even. If there are low spots, gaps or holes in the subfloor, it will affect the way the top-flooring lays. Liquid floor leveler is a thin cement that's designed to fill in those low spots and gaps, leveling out the surface so the top-flooring lays right.
Instructions
1. Mix ½ cup of trisodium phosphate with a gallon of hot water. Mop the floor thoroughly with it. Rinse-mop well with clean hot water. Let it dry at least 48 hours.
2. Set your straight board on its narrow edge at one end of the floor. Move the board over the floor slowly, assessing how it lays on the surface, looking for gaps under it that indicate low spots. Mark the low spots with a pencil, drawing circles around them. Do the whole floor.
3. Pour your leveler mix and water into your bucket, in the ratio specified on the leveler packaging. Mix with your drill and mixing bar. The resulting compound should have a thin, watery consistency.
4. Slowly pour the leveler over the low spots you marked with your pencil, letting it spread out. Fill any holes, cracks or gaps in the floor as well. Scrape your straight board over any areas where the leveler doesn't spread out completely flat. Do the whole floor. Let it set overnight.
