Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Excessive use of keywords for the purpose of gaining higher Web page rankings is known as "keyword stuffing." Keyword stuffing is considered poor etiquette because its aim is to manipulate search engines. Using this or other black hat SEO technique could get your website penalized or even banned by Google and the other major search engines. Learn avoid keyword stuffing, also known as spamdexing. Focus instead on providing quality content to your visitors.

Instructions

1. Write text naturally. Do not use keywords more often than feels natural. Read the text to yourself after you have finished typing it. Ask yourself if the text flows or if it sounds artificial or forced. If it seems you repeat keywords too frequently, rewrite the content.

2. Avoid meaningless or irrelevant keywords. These are keywords that have nothing to do with what is on the Web page or else add little value to its content. Before you insert a keyword to a page, ask yourself if you are doing it more for search engines than for your readers.

3. Place keywords where visitors can see them. Never disguise them in invisible or "hidden" text. Examples of hidden text are text that have the same color as the background (such as gray on gray), text that is positioned outside of the viewable area and text that has a zero or very small font size. CSS has many properties that let you hide text in a Web page. Do not use them for this purpose.

4. Avoid excessive repetition of keywords in titles, meta tags and alternate text in images. For example, a phrase such as "email, mail, e-mail, outlook, ms outlook" in the page title tells the reader nothing useful and looks like spamming. Instead, use descriptive sentences that tell people what the Web page, picture or other item is about.

5. Write for your visitors. Never throw keywords here and there at random solely for the search engines. Focus on what will be helpful to your readers. Keep in mind that search engines are always improving their ranking criteria to deliver superior results to their users. So, while the SEO methods you use now could be obsolete later; superior content is always an advantage.
