Restore even beauty to your lawn.
Dead spots in your lawn may be caused by pet urine, or furniture or other objects sitting on a spot for an extended period of time. You often can prevent these spots by rinsing the grass after your dog has been on the lawn, picking up objects from the lawn or not leaving lawn furniture in one place through the summer. Once the spots are there, you will need to do more than put some grass seed on it for the best results.
Instructions
1. Dig out the dead spots with a shovel, removing all of the dead grass and about 2 inches of soil.
2. Mix fresh soil with compost in the hole so that the top is even with the bottom of the surrounding grass.
3. Sprinkle a thin layer of lime, then starter fertilizer, over the soil.
4. Rake the lime and fertilizer into the soil with a hand rake.
5. Spread an even layer of grass seed over the soil.
6. Turn the hand rake over and use the backside to mix the seed into the soil.
7. Water the spots immediately with a lawn sprinkler for 15 minutes. Water twice a day for 15 minutes until the grass starts to sprout, then water normally.
