Create A Plaster Cast Of The Footprint

A plaster cast of a child's footprint is a perfect childhood keepsake.

Children grow so quickly it's sometimes hard to keep track of the changes and remember how small they used to be. One way to preserve the memories of early childhood is to take plaster of Paris casts of footprints or handprints. They can either left as pure white prints or you can highlight the imprint by painting with acrylic paints.

Instructions

1. Mix 1 1/4 cups of water with two cups of plaster of Paris and stir to a smooth, loose paste that resembles the consistency of pea soup.

2. Pour the plaster into a paper plate to a depth of 1 inch and allow to sit for two minutes to allow the plaster to harden very slightly.

3. Press the foot gently into the plaster so that a footprint is made. Avoid pressing all the way through the plaster to the plate.

4. Keep the foot in the plaster for a minute or two to allow the plaster to harden slightly around the shape of the foot, then carefully lift the foot out of the plaster, taking care not to distort the sides of the print.

5. Leave the footprint to set overnight to harden completely, then peel the paper away from the plaster footprint.
