Put Plaster On Walls

Plastering walls is a major part of building construction and has been for centuries. As it is the final layer on many walls that you find both inside and outside a building, it is important that plaster is applied properly to avoid the appearance of low-quality workmanship in the building. There are numerous types of plaster, such as gypsum plaster, lime plaster and cement plaster, each with its own properties and qualities.

Instructions

1. Ensure that the wall to be plastered is clean and doesn't contained unwanted holes or divots. Fill in unwanted holes with cement filler.

2. Prevent absorption of plaster into the wall by first sealing it with a solution of water and polyvinyl acetate. Use a rolling brush to spread the solution onto the wall.

3. Create the plaster mixture by mixing the dry plaster powder with water in a bowl. Mix in the ratio of one part water to three parts powder. Mix with an electric mixer until the plaster turns into a consistent paste.

4. Empty the plaster paste onto a large surface that can be scraped off easily. Scrape a small amount onto the board.

5. To plaster the edges of the walls, place the trowel with plaster on a parallel with the edge and drag the trowel in toward the center of the wall in an arc.

6. Repeat the process until the entire wall has been plastered.

7. Leave the plaster for around an hour, until it has become slightly firmer but still hasn't dried. Flatten the plaster by dragging the trowel toward you over the entire surface of the wall.

8. Apply a second coat of plaster onto the wall in the same way as the first coat. Flatten the second layer of plaster by dragging the trowel toward you over the entire surface of the wall. Splash a small amount of water on the wall with a brush to prevent the plaster from becoming too dry.
