If your water smells like rotten eggs, it probably has sulfur in it.
Sulfur is in water in the embodiment of hydrogen sulfide. No major health problems are associated with hydrogen sulfide, though it smells like rotten eggs. The smell can make you feel sick, and you may throw up. Remove sulfur from your water with the same process used to remove manganese and iron. Once your run your water through a special system, that rotten egg smell will go away.
Instructions
1. Utilize a chlorination system whenever the pH level is between six and eight. Use chlorine liquid or pellets if the level in your water reaches these points. This process will oxidize the sulfur and make it easier to remove.
2. Cascade the water to agitate it by running it into a container from a faucet. Hydrogen sulfide will become gaseous.
3. Run the water through a manganese greensand filter. It will remove the sulfur and manganese because it oxidizes the sulfur into solid particles. Those particles will then be filtered.
4. Utilize a catalytic carbon filter if the hydrogen sulfide level is below 0.3 mg/L. Activated carbon will attract sulfur from the water. You can then filter the sulfur.
