Unique Stucco Fence Ideas

Use bright colors on your stucco fence for a unique idea.

You might not think of fencing as a way to show off your distinctive personality, but with the versatility of stucco, this is possible. According to Advanced Forming Technology, stucco made its first appearance in ancient Greece and Rome. Also used in walls, this material consists of a combination of water, lime, sand and aggregate. To make a stucco fence, you'll need to build a frame from wood, concrete steel or chicken wire. Using creativity and ingenuity, you can form very unique fences.

Snake Fence

Make a stucco fence that looks like a snake. You can either turn the entire fence form into a snake or have the creature wind its way along the top section. Build the frame with curves to mimic the winding body of the snake. Once the stucco dries, paint the snake form for definition. You can choose to make it realistic or abstract with bright colors and patterns.

Assemblage

When stucco is wet, you can use the material to press different objects into the surface. After the final layer of stucco is applied to the fence frame, turn it into an assemblage piece of artwork. Stick different random objects into the stucco. As it dries, the objects will be held in place. You may find visiting a junkyard or secondhand store beforehand to gather items helpful. You can use anything from dolls to small car parts.

Castle

Build a high stucco fence that resembles a fort or castle wall. If you have the time and resources, you can even make a guard tower on each end of the fence that doubles as an outdoor patio. When you're building the frame for the fence, leave spaces for windows. You can either leave the spaces empty or fill them with bars, depending on the look you're going for. This large-scale project works best on big areas of private land.

Combination of Materials

Stucco fences are usually solid. Break away from this tradition by forming an individual fence mold. Only use the stucco as a frame. Leave an open gap of several feet between the top, bottom and sides of stucco. Complete the fence by filling this gap with another type of fence material, such as metal bars, wrought iron or glass.
