Install Toggle Drywall Anchors

Mirrors and other heavy wall hangings require a sturdy mount.

Drywall is a fragile product that is not designed to support wall hangings. Any weight applied to a simple fastener in your drywall will result in a damaged decoration and a hole in your wall. Toggle anchors solve this problem by spreading out the weight distribution enough so that the drywall will support small to moderate wall hangings. A toggle anchor slides into a hole in your drywall and expands. This expanded section of the anchor holds firm to the inside of the drywall to provide the grip you need.

Instructions

1. Spread the drop cloth under your work area. Pull the cloth up the wall a few inches so that there is no bare floor showing.

2. Hold the drill with both hands while keeping the bit at a 90-degree angle to the wall. Pull the trigger of the drill to make a hole through the drywall.

3. Check your toggle anchor to insure it has a large washer and the anchor securely on the screw. Fold the anchor to be sure the wings fold back toward the head of the screw. Push the anchor through the hole in the wall.

4. Pull the screw head to apply pressure to the anchor inside of the wall. Twist the screw head by hand while maintaining this pressure. Snug the screw with your screwdriver until you need it to install your wall hanging.
