Angel Gifts For Buddies

Angel ornaments can make charming gifts.

Gifts featuring angels can make good holiday presents. Angels also symbolize protection to many people, making angel gifts a good choice for people who are facing challenges. While you can find many attractive angel-themed products for sale in stores, a handmade gift can be a great way to show a friend or loved one that you care. You can create angel gifts using many different materials, from tiny beaded angel charms to plaster of Paris figurines.

Beaded Angels

You can make angel charms using beads. "Beadies," small decorative motifs woven from beads, are one example. Colored seed beads or pony beads are threaded onto wire or beading thread, and woven to create a mosaic-like design. You can make an even simpler angel charm using two beads and a scrap of sparkling metallic ribbon. Use one bead for the head and a larger bead for the body, with several loops of ribbon in between to represent the angel's wings. Turn these angel charms into jewelry with a cord or brooch pin, or attach them to mobile phone straps.

Angel Toys

Stuffed toys and dolls can make cute little angels. Shape wings from beading wire and stretch translucent white or pastel colored fabric over the wire outline. Sew to the toy's back or secure with hot glue. Make a halo from silver or gold pipe-cleaner. Alternatively, thread metallic beads onto a piece of beading wire or wrap beading wire in metallic thread to make a halo. If you use mini toys you can turn the toy into a charm or a brooch by hot gluing a brooch back on its back or sewing a jump ring to the toy for a cord or strap. Remember that such a toy is no longer safe for small children.

Angel Picture Magnets

Make angel picture magnets and jewelry using flat-backed glass marbles or small glass tiles. Find angel pictures on greetings cards or cut them out of catalogs and magazines. Use the tile or marble as a viewfinder to choose the perfect section of the image, then cut it to fit the back of the glass. Glue the photo to the back of the tile or marble with silicone glue. When dry, glue a small magnet to the back. You can also use polymer clay to frame the picture and make it into a pendant.

Plaster Cast Angels

Many craft stores offer unpainted plaster of Paris angel figurines for you to decorate, as well as molds to make your own plaster angels. You can also make your own molds by covering a suitable angel model in liquid rubber molding compound. Mix up the plaster of Paris according to the manufacturer's instructions, and pour it into the mold. Allow it to set. When completely dry, you can paint your angel with acrylics.
