Drywall is a cheap material used in home building.
Drywall -- a gypsum mixture pressed between two paper boards -- is a common building material used in homes. The drywall boards are placed side by side, and the seams are hidden by drywall tape. Typically, seams are kept away from doors, since doors are highly susceptible to shifting as the house settles. Regardless, you may see cracks appear above your door in the drywall as time passes. You can repair the drywall using drywall mesh and joint compound.
Instructions
1. Brush out the crack to remove any dust.
2. Swipe the point of the utility knife down the crack to clear it out and create a small indentation.
3. Place a piece of wire drywall mesh over the crack in the wall.
4. Take a portion of premixed drywall compound onto a 4-inch putty knife and spread it over the wire mesh. Feather the edges of the patch to keep sanding to a minimum. Allow the drywall compound to dry.
5. Apply a second coat of drywall compound over the patch. Allow it to dry. Apply a third layer.
6. Sand the drywall patch smooth using a sanding block.
7. Apply a primer onto the patch, then paint with the same paint as the rest of the wall.
