Stucco Texture Drywall

You can texture your drywall to look like stucco.

Classic stucco is a cement that is used in exterior applications, such as on the outside of a house, to give a rough, textured look. You can get the same effect indoors on your drywall walls by using stucco paint, which is paint with thickening agents added so you can work it to create texture. There are several ways you can texture the stucco paint, with one of the most effective being to "pull" the texture into it with a standard cement trowel.

Instructions

1. Remove any furniture from the room where you plan to texture your drywall. Lay tarps over the floor. Scrape the walls thoroughly with your paint scraper, taking off any loose or peeling paint.

2. Coat the wall in a layer of primer, using a roller. Start at the upper end of the wall and work your way down and across with the roller, covering it completely. Let it dry for a day.

3. Set up your ladder. Roll stucco paint onto the wall in one upper corner, covering a few square feet. Apply it as thickly as you can.

4. Press your cement trowel flat against the stucco paint, and pull it straight outward, so it leaves ridges and peaks in the stucco. Press the trowel to the wall again, next to the spot where you pressed it the first time, and pull it out again. Repeat, texturing the whole area where there is paint.

5. Spread more stucco paint and continue texturing it in sections. Step back and assess your work after each few sections to make sure that it's consistent. Repeat and continue until you've done the whole wall. Let it dry overnight before you move the furniture back into the room.
