Search Twitter By Location & Keyword

A Twitter location search displays tweets from any geographical area you specify.

Using the Twitter Search page, you can search all tweets on Twitter from the previous seven days. When you type in a search term like "baseball bats," you are shown all tweets containing that phrase. By adding search operators like "near:" and "within:," you can narrow the search to a specific location and radius. Locations and keywords can thus be combined into a single search. The results display in the main window, and a map appears in the right column.

Instructions

1. Go to the Twitter Search page at Search.twitter.com.

2. Type "near:location" in the Twitter search box at the top of the page, but replace "location" with an actual location name, such as "Boston," "65806," "Wisconsin" or "China."

3. Type a space after the location you entered in Step 2, then type "within:radius." Replace "radius" with a number in terms of miles or kilometers. For example, type "within:5mi" or "within:100km." This step is optional and helps to narrow or broaden your Twitter search.

4. Type a space after the radius you entered in Step 3, then enter a keyword, such as "pizza" or "running shoes."

5. Click the "Search" button.
