Ceiling Suggestions For Kitchen areas

You might think that decorating ideas for kitchens were limited due to a lack of wall surfaces. Because cabinets dominate kitchens, it is hard to imagine doing anything really creative in the room while keeping it functional. But if you think of the ceiling as a fifth wall, your options for decorating increase exponentially.

Tin Ceilings

Tin ceilings were widely used in the mid-19th century in to decorate the home as an alternative to handcrafted plasterwork. They give the room an ornate appearance for a reduced cost. Tin ceilings are excellent for modern use in kitchens. Real tin ceilings are easy to install and can outlast the life of your home. A less expensive option is faux tin or tin-look ceilings made of laminate or wallpaper materials. Ceiling tiles can be painted in any color, or you can go for an authentic looking copper or tin finish.

Wood Plank Ceilings

Wood can be applied to ceilings in the same way it can be applied to floors. Wood planks for ceilings are thinner than planks for floors as they don't take the same kind of beating floor planks take. Faux wood ceilings are a less expensive option and can come in any finish you choose. They can be installed by anyone with good carpentry skills.

Creative Drywall

Add depth and dimension to your kitchen ceiling with drywall by adding additional layers of drywall. This photograph shows what can be done by stacking simple rectangular shapes of drywall. You can be more creative by cutting the drywall into curves and other creative shapes and layering them on the ceiling. Ceiling drywall designs can be used to visually separate the eating area from the cooking area, or to create an intricate pattern. This is referred to a drywall art and can be done by someone with expert drywall skills.
