How If The Soil And Clay Pellets Be Mixed

Potted plants require a growing medium that provides good drainage.

Clay pellets are a soil-less growing medium made from small, hard-fired clay balls. The pellets are usually between .03 and .08 inches around. The firing process causes the clay to expand creating a porous medium. Clay pellets are most commonly used in hydroponics and for orchids and other plants that require a soil-less growing medium. Use clay pellets to increase drainage in potting soil mixes for houseplants and other container grown plants and trees.

Instructions

1. Combine 1 part clay pellets with 9 parts standard, good quality potting soil in a bucket.

2. Mix the pellets and the potting soil together thoroughly using your hands on a long stir stick or spoon.

3. Use the clay pellet and potting soil mixture for all your container grown plants that require good drainage.

4. Spread a 1-inch layer of clay pellets over the bottom of the planting pot before adding potting soil to increase drainage.
