The Easiest Method To Finish Vinyl Sheetrock Inside A Rv

While some spend thousands refinishing their vinyl Sheetrock with tile or wood paneling, frugal do-it-yourselfers opt to apply a finish coating. If you rank with the latter, learn the proper way to condition the Sheetrock prior to application, or peeling will result. Vinyl Sheetrock is a waterproof surface. This characteristic leaves it unsuitable for painted finishes unless it is roughened prior to application. Learn combat this potential problem, or you will have little chance at success.

Instructions

1. Detach the switch plates and outlet covers, using a screwdriver.

2. Scrub the vinyl Sheetrock clean, using a nylon sponge. Rinse it with wet rags and let dry for two hours.

3. Abrade the Sheetrock, or it will not hold the primer base coat. Load 180-grit sandpaper into a palm sander. Scour the vinyl Sheetrock until it feels rough to your palms. Do not skip even a single area; this will lead to peeling.

4. Cover the mobile home floors with thick canvas drop cloths. Apply painter's tape to surfaces running adjacent to the Sheetrock.

5. Add latex primer to the roughened vinyl mobile home Sheetrock, using a roller. Roll vertically. Immediately touch-up the vinyl Sheetrock, using a paintbrush. Avoid nylon brushes which may leave marks in the finish. For smooth results, choose a polyester paintbrush. Let the primed Sheetrock dry for two hours.

6. Wash your paintbrush, roller and paint tray with water.

7. Paint the vinyl mobile home Sheetrock as you primed it. Choose a satin latex paint for a muted finish; choose a semi-gloss latex paint if you desire a sheen.
