According to Dictionary.com, corkboard is bulletin board made of cork. What this short definition doesn't tell you, is that corkboard is a necessity for every office and has an assortment uses. Where you look for corkboard depends on what it will be used for. From coasters and placemats to floor covering to soundproofing walls, corkboard comes in all shapes and sizes.

Corkboard Rolls

Rolled corkboard is one of the most versatile forms of cork. Small rolls can be used for crafts, such as custom coasters and placemats. Larger rolls, many feet long, can be used to make a very attractive wall covering. You can cover all the walls and doors in a room for soundproofing. Just by covering the door with a panel of cork, you create a handy bulletin board and also help soundproof your room, which is perfect for dorms.

Rolled corkboard can also be used as a cushioning layer under hardwood flooring. It is readily available at hardware stores and at online hardware stores, office supply stores, auctions sites and school supply stores.

Corkboard tiles

Corkboard tiles can be arranged on a wall as a giant bulletin board to make a functional wall feature. Painted corkboard brings out the texture inherent to cork, and can be used to create patterns. Smaller corkboard tiles can be used to make your own custom bulletin board. Tiled corkboard can also be found online and in hardware stores, as well as in your local craft supply store.

There are limitless stores online that sell bulletin boards as well. But, if you have tight budget, there are a few other place to find less expensive corkboards. Garage sales often have bulletin boards for only $1 or $2. You could also check out your local thrift or charity store. Check the phone book for your area's local recycling center and go green by getting a new-to-you corkboard.
