A denturist fits dentures.
A denturist fits removable prosthetic dental appliances (dentures). According to the Oregon Board of Denture Technology, the scope of practice of a denturist is to construct, repair, reline, reproduce, duplicate, supply, fit or alter dentures. Oregon denturists may work independently or in dental laboratories and offices that specialize in denture services.
Oregon offers three pathways by which you can become a licensed denturist.
Pathway One
The first way you can become a licensed denturist in Oregon is a three-step process:
(1) Complete a minimum of a formal associate-degree program in denture technology or the equivalent. The program must be approved by the Oregon Health Licensing Agency and comply with the licensing standards of the Oregon Board of Denture Technology.
(2) Have 1,000 hours of denture technology experience under the direct supervision of an approved school or the equivalent supervised experience.
(3) Pass the Oregon written and practical denturist examination.
Pathway Two
In the second way to become licensed denturist in Oregon, you need to complete the same education and experience as in Pathway One. Then you need to pass a written and practical examination approved or recognized by the Oregon Board of Denture Technology.
Pathway Three
You can apply for Oregon licensure if you are a licensed denturist in another state or territory of the United States. The licensing requirements of your state or territory must be equal to or greater than Oregon's requirements. You must have passed a written and practical examination that is substantially similar to Oregon's exam. Also, you must have practiced denture technology as a licensed denturist for at least two years immediately before you apply for Oregon licensure.
