The Typical Cost Of Hanging Drywall

Drywall is usually simpler to repair than other plaster-based methods.

Drywall is one common alternative to plaster used in ceiling and wall construction. Costs for its installation can be based on a number of factors, including the market current to your project and the method of pricing used by the selected contractor.

Types of Pricing

Typically, contractors use one of two formulas for determining the price of hanging drywall. The first is calculated by figuring out the cost for the whole job, reasonable profit margin and then dividing that into the total number of sheets to be used. This is called cost-per-sheet pricing and ranges between $25 and $60, as of 2010. The other way is by establishing the cost-per-square foot, commonly about $1.

Considerations

People looking to hire a drywall contractor should keep in mind economic considerations. As of 2010, the economy hit the housing industry quite hard, inducing lower prices for materials. Currently, average price per sheet of drywall is around $6, as opposed to a figure which was twice that amount in preceding years.

Warnings

Industry commentators remark on two potential practices to be aware of. First, ensure you are made aware of "extras" that may appear on your bill such as delivery charges. Second, establish clear guidelines with your installer as to the "clean-up" process. Don't get left with the hassle and debris of an abandoned work-site.
