Anchors are important to use, no matter what you hang. Most interior walls and ceilings are made of drywall or sheet rock. It doesn't take much to damage drywall and sheet rock. Using the right kind of anchors and limiting the weight the shelves will bear, help to protect the life of the wall. It is better to overcompensate than under compensate.
Instructions
1. Purchase anchors designed for drywall or sheet rock. There are a variety of styles-choose the one that will hold 30 lbs or more.
2. Select a threaded drywall toggle to insert in the wall. This toggle will hold up to 40 lbs--you can have confidence it will hold the 30 lbs you need.
3. Test the threaded drywall toggle before you put it into the wall. Many times a package of four toggles will have at least one toggle that doesn't work properly.
4. Check the threading to see if it turns smoothly. You don't want to cause damage to the drywall or sheet rock.
5. Screw the toggle into the wall with a Phillips screwdriver. Turn the toggle clockwise to tighten.
6. Feel for a pull towards the inside of the wall as you turn the toggle clockwise. If you turn the toggle slowly, you can feel it tighten.
7. Turn the toggle clockwise until the anchor is flush to the inside wall. You will know when the anchor is flat against the wall-it will become difficult to turn.
