Replace Drywall Corner Bead


Drywall is constructed using a crushed form of the mineral gypsum. The mineral is mixed with water to make a paste. The paste is molded into a flat sheet that is covered with paper on each side. Once dry, gypsum becomes a solid rock. While is it very durable, drywall, can become damaged through normal wear and tear. Because they are more exposed than other areas, corner beads are particularly susceptible to dents and chips. Repairing a damaged corner bead is not a difficult job, however, it does require a bit of patience to obtain a desirable end result.


Instructions


1. Scrape any loose drywall compound from the wall with a putty knife or paint scraper.


2. Examine the corner bead to ensure it is still secured to the wall. If it is not secure, drive in any loose nails with a hammer.


3. Apply a thin layer of drywall compound over the damaged area on the wall. Allow area to completely dry.


4. Apply a second layer of drywall compound to the area and allow to dry. Repeat process until drywall compound is even with wall surface.


5. Sand the wall in a circular motion to remove any high or rough spots.


6. Apply drywall texture finish to match the existing surface, if needed. Follow the instructions on drywall finish can.


7. Apply primer coat to finished drywall surface. Once primer is dry, paint repaired area to match existing wall color.
