Gyprock is a type of plaster board composed of a gypsum core that is covered with a heavy-duty liner board folded around the edges to help protect the gypsum. Like drywall, gyprock is used on the interior of houses as walls and ceilings. Gyprock is lasts a long time and can be painted. Removing paint from gyprock is the same as removing it from regular drywall. With a little bit of time and the right materials, you can remove peeling paint from gyprock and your wall will be ready to repaint.
Instructions
1. Lay a drop cloth along the floor in the area where the paint is going to be scraped off.
2. Find an area on the wall where the paint has already started to peel and slide the scraper underneath the peeling paint.
3. Scrape all of the areas with peeling paint, removing as much as possible. Climb up a stepladder, when necessary, to reach higher points on the wall.
4. Wet the wall with warm water, using a rag, where there is still paint that needs to be removed. Dab the paint to help loosen it and make it easier to scrape off.
5. Scrape the rest of the paint off with a scraper. Continue around the entire wall until all the paint has been removed and move on to the next wall, if desired.
6. Sand down the wall to smooth out the surface and wash it thoroughly with soap, water and a sponge to remove any left over paint chips or other debris from the sandpaper. Allow it to dry before applying a new coat of paint.
