Plaster Of Paris Christmas Crafts

Don your home with orignial Christmas crafts that you have created yourself.

Perhaps the most popular holiday to decorate for is Christmas. Lights, wreaths, trees and ornaments are some of the decorations commonly found adorning homes and bringing yule tidings. If you are a handy person who enjoys craft making, consider making your own Christmas crafts out of plaster of Paris. They can be used to dress up your home year after year.

Keepsake Hand Print

This is an ideal craft for a child to make. From your local craft store, purchase plaster of Paris, a pie tin, ribbon and red and green paint. Lightly spray a pie tin with cooking spray. Fill the pie tin with the plaster of Paris. Have the child press her hand into the wet plaster of Paris. Also, place a hole in the top of the plaster above the hand print while the plaster is still wet. Once the plaster is completely dry, remove it from the tin. Once it has totally dried, allow the child to add colorful adornments to the decoration with the red and green paint. When the paint has dried, place a ribbon through the hole that was created. Once the craft is complete, you will have a decoration that you can hang on a wall or a door.

Christmas Tree Ornaments

Make ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree using plaster of Paris and Christmas candy molds. Lightly spray the inside of the candy molds with cooking spray. Pour the plaster of Paris into the mold. Once the molds filled with plaster, place a hole in the top of each soon-to-be decoration. Once the plaster has completely dried, remove the ornaments from the candy molds. Add some color to the ornaments with paint. Tie ribbons through the holes to hang the ornaments.

Candy Dish

Make a festive dish to hold your Christmas sweets. Lightly spray a pie tin with cooking spray. Fill the pie tin with plaster of Paris. Spray a small plastic Christmas tree or snowman with cooking spray and place it in the plaster deep enough so that it makes a good indentation. Let the plastic decoration sit in the plaster until the plaster is firm and the shape has taken in the plaster. Remove the decoration from the plaster. Once the plaster has completely dried, use non-toxic paint to add color to the impression. Apply linseed oil with a paint brush to seal the craft, let it dry, and fill the finished product with your favorite holiday candy.
