Google Analytics uses a tracking code inserted in your website's pages, to enable you to track visitor statistics. You need a Google account to use Google Analytics. One such statistic is the keywords typed in the Google search text box to find your website. Google Analytics displays the keywords used to find the site, and it lists the number of referral clicks for each of those keyword phrases. The tool helps you to identify how many visitors you receive from keyword search results.
Instructions
1. Create a Google account if you don't have one already. Open a Web browser and navigate to the "New User Account" Google web page. Fill out the form and click "I accept. Create my account" to create the Google account.
2. Open a new browser window and navigate to the Google Analytics' home page and click "New" to set up a new site.
3. Type the domain name in the text box and click "OK."
4. Click the "Overview" link for the domain to view the basic analytics information. No information is displayed before you insert the tracking code.
5. Click "Edit" in the "Actions" tab. Click "Check Status."
6. Copy the code in the text box labeled "Instructions for adding tracking." This code is what you insert into your website HTML pages.
7. Right-click the HTML page where you want to track Web visitor statistics.
8. Select "Open With," then click "Notepad."
9. Click "Open" to load the code in the HTML editor.
10. Paste the tracking code to the bottom of the code file directly above the "" tag and press "Ctrl" and "S" to save the changes.
11. Upload this file to your website host provider.
12. Open a web browser window and navigate to the Google Analytics home page. Google Analytics uses your Google user account information. If you are logged in, you are automatically transferred to your Analytics account. Otherwise, type your Analytics user name and password to log in.
13. Select a date from the calendar located in the top-right corner panel. Analytics automatically selects the last 30 days as the active date range.
14. Click the link labeled "View Report" in the "Traffic Sources" panel. A list of traffic sources is displayed, including how many referrals you received from other websites and search engines.
15. Click "View Full Report" in the "Keywords" panel. All keywords, and the number of visitors you received from each keyword phrase, are listed.
