Mineral oxide pigment adds depth of color to stucco.
Mineral oxide pigments are used to dye stucco and other concrete products. Available in powder and liquid form, they are mixed directly into the stucco to give depth of color that won't fade with weathering. Stucco is normally applied in two steps: a scratch coat followed by a top coat. Since mineral oxide pigments can be expensive, they are normally only applied to the top coat of the stucco.
Instructions
1. Mix the stucco components or premixed stucco thoroughly with a paint paddle or clean shovel (for larger amounts).
2. Mix liquid mineral oxide with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the mineral oxide is in powder form, stir the pigment or shake the package thoroughly.
3. Add the iron oxide to the stucco. The amount that you need will be listed on the mineral oxide's packaging in pounds of mineral oxide per pounds of stucco to be dyed. This listed ratio will result in a color very near to the one pictured on the label.
4. Mix the stucco and pigment thoroughly for 60 to 90 seconds. Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container or wheelbarrow as you mix.
5. Apply the stucco to the wall.
