Prepare Crimson Wallboard Inside A Bathroom

If you are adding drywall to a high moisture area like the bathroom, a purple board drywall is the most suitable material to use because of its increased resistance to mildew and mold. Once you purchase your purple drywall, installing it is just as straightforward as installing regular drywall. Applying it to the wall and covering seams are all that's needed when installing the purple wallboard.

Instructions

1. Measure out pieces of wallboard you need using the T-square. Cut the board by slicing it with a utility knife and snap to break it at the line.

2. Attach the board to the wall, attaching to studs using a drywall hammer and ring shank nails. Cover the entire wall with the purple wallboard before trying to seal the joints.

3. Tape each of the seams using joint tape. Make sure each edge of the tape extends past the seam approximately 2 to 3 inches.

4. Cover seams and tape with mud. Apply mud with a plastic putty knife, covering the seams and smoothing out any rough edges. Spread the mud over the tape at a 45-degree angle, then smooth out. Allow the mud to dry thoroughly.

5. Sand down rough edges of mud to ensure a smooth wall surface. Once the wall is sanded, apply a waterproof primer to the walls for added protection. After painting one to two coats of primer, paint the room as desired.
