A crack in a textured ceiling is often caused by the natural settling of the structure over a period of time. Cracks also develop because of sudden impact and leaking water. To repair the crack properly, you want to cover it up and conceal it from being visible when compared to the surrounding ceiling area. The materials for the repair are found at home improvement stores. Working with them properly requires some practice.
Instructions
1. Move any furniture that is beneath the crack. Place an old sheet or plastic covering over the floor or carpet below the crack.
2. Climb a ladder and scrape away the loose texture from the ceiling along the crack to reveal the drywall underneath. Use a putty knife. Using a rag, wipe off any remaining dust from the spot.
3. Place a cartridge of latex caulk into a caulking gun. Squeeze a bead of caulk along the crack. Moisten your finger with warm water, and neatly smooth the caulk out with your finger. Allow the caulk to dry.
4. Wipe the repaired area clean of dust. Apply a coat of latex primer on the repaired area.
5. Hold or tape a small box on the ceiling around the repaired area. Hold a can of aerosol ceiling texture spray about 9 to 14 inches from the ceiling, or at a distance according to the manufacturer's instructions. Using a sweeping motion, spray the texture onto the repaired area.
