Metal roofing is a practice that has been going on since 970 BC. Metal roofs are valued for their strength and ability to weather hurricane-force winds, fire, earthquakes, and can even be used to purify rain water and used as a water source. Steel deck roofing types work well in various applications, for both residential and commercial buildings. The various types of steel deck roofs have different appearances that can lend themselves to may styles of buildings.

Type B

The Type B is a steel deck roof that has wide ribs. For example, each raised area is separated by valleys that are 2 1/2-inch valleys. The raised area is 1 1/2-inches tall. The gauge of the steel, which represents the steel's thickness, can range from 16 to 22 gauges. You can choose galvanized, prime painted, or a combination of both as your steel finish.

Type F

The height of the of the raised areas are the same as the type B steel deck roof, however, the valleys in between are narrower, only 1 3/4-inches wide. The gauge range is less as well, only 18 to 22.

Type A

The type A steel deck roof has even narrower valleys between the the raised portions that are only 1-inch wide. The gauge range is narrower as well, from 19 to 22 gauge.

Dovetail Type

The name of this type of steel deck roof refers to its resemblance to the dovetail joint in carpentry. This type of steel roof has narrow raised portions with wider valleys that are nearly 6-inches wide. The gauge range for these steel deck roofs are 16 to 22 gauge.
