Repair Walls After Wallpaper Removal

Underneath that paint or wallpaper is drywall.


Wallpaper removal is not all that difficult but if you live in an older home, you may discover that some recent wallpaper was not hung properly. Walls or drywall that's not been primed before wallpapering, also known as unsized walls, can result in ripped, gouged or damaged walls. Repairs your walls using supplies from your local building supply store and a little effort and time. Once the job is completed, you'll be ready to paint or wallpaper again.


Instructions


1. A scraper applies and spreads the spackle.


Spread a thin layer of spackle over areas that are scratched, gouged or have rips or tears. Smooth the spackle with your scraper, extending it just beyond the edge of the repair. Allow the spackle to dry.


2. Sandpaper smooths the spackle.


Sand the spackle so it blends into the surrounding area. Apply a second coat of to areas that are still not even.


3. Wipe off the dust with a clean cloth.


4. Use a paint stirrer to mix the primer.


Mix acrylic primer with a stirring stick.


5. Paint rollers apply primer smoothly and easily.


Use a paint roller to prime the wall.


6. Use a brush to apply primer near edges, floorboards and ceiling. Primer protects walls from damage by subsequent wallpapering or wallpaper removal.


7. Allow the primer to fully dry before applying paint or wallpaper.
