Take your time when applying wall tiles to check that they are lined up.
Ceramic tiles are used for covering walls, floors and counters. You can apply ceramic tiles to primed drywall to create a backsplash for your kitchen. Installing ceramic tiles on primed drywall is not difficult, since it is already prepared for tile installation. Plan ahead and consider your tile and grout selection. Select tiles that will complement or accent the other elements of the room such as cabinets, counters, floors and wall colors. Ceramic tiles come in many textures and colors. In addition to choosing tiles, a grout color that will accent the tiles.
Instructions
1. Measure from one side of the wall to the other with a tape measure. Mark the center of the wall with a pencil.
2. Spread a layer of thinset mortar onto the wall with a notched trowel in an even back-and-forth motion.
3. Start at the bottom of the wall on either side of the center line. Work your way along the wall, laying tiles as you work your way to the outside edges. Press the tiles firmly in place against the wall. Insert tile spacers between the tile joints to ensure an even tile application.
4. Lay additional rows of tiles above the first row until you have completely tiled the wall. Insert tile spacers between the tile joints above and below. Allow the thinset mortar to dry overnight.
5. Remove the tile spacers by pulling them out with your fingers. Apply grout to a grout float. Hold the grout float at a slight angle against the tiles and drag it across the joints to fill each tile joint with grout. Allow the grout to dry for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
6. Dampen a sponge in a bucket of water. Wash the surface of the tiles until the sponge wrings clean water after you rinse it.
