Repeating keywords frequently in your website copy will help search engine rankings
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword is listed on a page, in comparison with the total number of words on a page, presented as a percentage. Pages with higher keyword density have a better chance of getting indexed by search engines. Search engine marketers used to define an ideal percentage for keyword density, but now it is more of a guideline for web writing. There are a number of online tools that can help you determine the keyword density of your page, or you can figure it out yourself with a little math.
Instructions
1. Figure out the keyword density of your page the old fashioned way, using a pencil, paper and calculator. First, write down the total number of words on the page. Then, count how many times one specific keyword occurs. For instance, if your keyword is "Blue widgets," count how many times "Blue widgets" appears on the page. Divide the number of keyword occurrences by the total number of words on the page, multiple the number by 100 to find the percentage, and you will find the keyword density. Therefore, if there are 250 words on the page, and five occurrences of "blue widgets," your keyword density is 2 percent.
2. Use KeywordDensity to assess the keyword density of your website. KeywordDensity.com allows you to enter your website and a competitor's website, and then analyzes both sites' percentage of keyword density, so that you can compare your rankings. Enter the keywords you are targeting for your website, then click "Analyze Keyword Density," to see your ranking. This site is free and easy to use.
3. Use PageRank to determine your keyword density. PageRank has a few more search fields that KeywordDensity, allowing you to customize your analysis slightly. Enter your website's URL, and click the page elements you want the tool to search, such as the page titles and page descriptions. Review the suggested stop words, and remove any that you want included in the search. Enter the word verification and click "Generate Report." PageRank is also free to use, and easy to navigate.
