Sheetrock, plasterboard, wallboard, drywall, gypsum board -- they are all basically the same material used on interior walls of almost all new houses. Sheetrock was the name given by U.S. Gypsum Corp. when it introduced it in 1916. It was made of gypsum plaster and fiber compressed between two sheets of tough paper. It was much easier to install than conventional plaster, but did not gain widespread acceptance until after World War II.
