The Very Best Wall Treatment To Hinder Mold

Inhibiting mold growth on walls concerns homeowners today.

Mold and mildew present big problems to homeowners. Mold can grow on virtually anything, including walls, wood and insulation. Providing adequate ventilation and using mold-resistant materials can help inhibit mold growth.

Wall Board

Several companies now produce sheetrock and gypsum wall panels manufactured with mold inhibitors throughout the panel. Cement wall boards are water resistant, another key factor in inhibiting mold growth. These products outperform standard sheetrock and green board for inhibiting mold in damp areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and basements.

Paint

Premium paint products contain some degree of mildewcide, substances which kill mold. Other paints are specifically formulated to fight new mold growth, as indicated on the label. These products typically keep the paint mold-free for the life of the coating. However, even the best mold-inhibiting paint will not prevent mold growth if the surface beneath harbors mold spores. Before painting, clean the surface thoroughly.

Warning

Even mold-resistant products offer little protection against eventual mold growth if dampness is uncontrolled. Adequate ventilation and the elimination of unwanted moisture and water are key to controlling mold growth on walls.
