Put Sheetrock On Curved Walls

Covering a curved wall with Sheetrock requires more thought and a different technique than installing Sheetrock on a flat wall. Incorrectly installing the Sheetrock on a curved wall will place a lot of stress on the core of the drywall board. This will cause it to break and become unusable as a wall covering. One installation method increases the flexibility of the Sheetrock and reduces stress from building in the material.

Instructions

1. Set one long edge of a piece of 1/4-inch Sheetrock on the floor -- at the connecting point of the curved wall and the subfloor of the house. Push one short side of the drywall against a stud of the curved wall.

2. Run one 1 1/2-inch drywall screw -- 1 inch down from the top edge of the sheet -- through the drywall and into the curved wall stud. Place one additional screw every 12 inches until you reach the bottom edge of the sheet.

3. Fill a 5-gallon plastic bucket halfway with water. Dip a sponge in the water. Run the water-soaked sponge across the Sheetrock until it becomes flexible. Push the drywall against the next stud of the curved wall.

4. Screw the wet damp drywall to the second stud using the method described earlier. Move along the first sheet of drywall until it is secure to the curved wall. Move up the wall securing the drywall to the curved wall. Allow the installed Sheetrock to dry for 8 to 10 hours.

5. Cut a sheet of Sheetrock in half lengthwise with a utility knife. Set the cut piece of Sheetrock against the curved wall. Ensure the long edge of the cut sheet is offset from the installed pieces of Sheetrock. Secure the cut sheet to the wall as described earlier.

6. Allow the installed drywall to dry for 36 to 48 hours before applying a finish to the curved wall.
