Hanging a picture on your wall is not a strenuous undertaking; it does require a little more preparation than putting up a poster. Pounding a nail into the wall -- and hanging a picture on it -- is sometimes not enough; the nail might fall without proper support. Place a plastic anchor in the wall to act as a support for the screw upon which you hang your picture. The anchor helps maintain the screw's position in the wall. It also maintains the integrity of the drywall.
Instructions
1. Identify an appropriate spot to place your nail. Use a pencil to mark the spot.
2. Drill a hole in the spot where you plan to install the screw for hanging your picture. Use a drill smaller than the closed end of the plastic anchor you are placing in the wall.
3. Place the closed end of your plastic anchor in the hole. Make the whole slightly larger -- or squeeze the shaft of the anchor -- if the anchor does not fit. Push the anchor firmly -- or tap it with a rubber mallet -- until it is almost flush with the wall.
4. Insert the tip of your screw into the open end of the plastic anchor; screw it in evenly. Leave approximately 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch of the screw exposed.
5. Hang your picture on the screw. The picture wire must be solidly placed over the exposed portion of the screw.
