Hang A Tv On Metal Studs

Flat panel TV sets are typically mounted on a wall as it provides an aesthetically pleasing and practical way to view the screen. To mount a flat panel TV on a wall that has metal studs, not wood, use toggle bolts and locking clamps rather than wood screws. The lightweight nature of the flat panel TV makes this an acceptable method for wall placement. A wall mount compatible with the flat panel TV still must be acquired; electronic stores and some hardware stores will be able to supply the needed mount. A few household tools and supplies from a hardware store round out what is needed.

Instructions

1. Place the wall mount against the wall at the height you want to mount the flat panel TV. An assistant will make holding the mount easier, and will be helpful when placing the TV on the wall. Draw a dot on the wall through the upper left hole in the wall mount using a pencil. Repeat this with the upper right hole in the mount. Place the wall mount aside.

2. Place a stud finder against one of the dots on the wall. Slowly pan the stud finder left and right until the needle on it's panel twitches to indicate the presence of a stud. Make a circle on the wall at this point with the pencil. Repeat this procedure with the other dot on the wall.

3. Drill a hole into the wall through each circle with a portable drill. Continue drilling until you feel the resistance from the drill bit cutting through the metal stud inside the wall end. Remove the drill. Hold the wall plate so that the back is facing away from you. Place a toggle bolt through each top hole in the mount.

4. Hold a locking clamp so that the spring on its end is facing away from you. Screw the locking plate onto one of the two toggle bolts about halfway. Repeat this with another locking clamp and the other toggle bolt.

5. Place the wall mount against the wall with the toggle bolts lined up to the two holes. Press in on the locking clamp and insert it into the hole. Push the toggle bolt into the hole. Pull back on the toggle bolt to engage the clamp. Repeat this with the other toggle bolt.

6. Mount the back of the TV onto the wall mount by lining up the grooves in the back of the TV with the rods on the wall mount. Turn the locking knobs on the side of the grooves to secure the TV to the wall mount. If there are screw holes on the side instead, turn metal screws into the grooves using a Phillips screwdriver.
