Use Sugar For Lawn Food

Believe it or not, sugar provides a safe and organic way to feed your lawn. Many other types of fertilizers burn the grass and deplete beneficial nutrients in the soil. Sugar helps fortify the nutrient-holding microbes and enrich your lawn's soil. Sugar on your lawn also helps to control weeds. Sugar can be added to your lawn in the by sprinkling confectioner's sugar or mixing blackstrap molasses with water.

Instructions

Confectioner's Sugar

1. Determine the square footage of your lawn.

2. Put 1/2 pound of sugar for every 150 square feet of lawn into a bucket. Combine ground chili pepper with the sugar to deter pests who might be attracted to the sugar. Sprinkle an even layer of sugar over your entire lawn. Sprinkle by walking through your lawn, grabbing handfuls of sugar and swinging your arm in a back and forth motion as you release the sugar.

3. Water the sugar-sprinkled lawn just enough to dampen it slightly and so the sugar crystals begin to melt.

Blackstrap Molasses

4. Pour 1 3/4 cups of molasses into the reservoir of a 10-gallon fertilizer hose attachment. For a 20-gallon attachment, use 3 1/2 cups of molasses.

5. Fill the rest of the reservoir with water. With the cap on, shake the reservoir to thoroughly mix the water and molasses.

6. Spray your lawn evenly, dampening--but not soaking--the entire lawn with the solution.
