Repair An Outdoors Vinyl Corner Publish Cheap

Vinyl corner posts cover the corners on houses with vinyl siding.

A vinyl corner post is a strip of trim fastened to the corners of a building where vinyl siding is installed. This provides the siding with a nice, clean edge while preventing water, dirt and debris from entering the gaps on the sides of the vinyl siding panels. The vinyl corner post can become become damaged if it's struck hard enough. Removing the entire strip and replacing it requires that you remove siding panels as well, but you can patch the damaged area without removing the siding.

Instructions

1. Measure the length of the damaged section of corner trim, and add 4 inches to the length. The extra 4 inches serve to extend the patch 2 inches past the damaged area on the top and bottom.

2. Cut a piece of corner post that matches the color of the existing post to the needed length with tin snips.

3. Remove the nailing flanges off of the trim with a utility knife. The nailing flanges are the tabs on the sides of the corner post that have slots through which nails are driven.

4. Sand the bottom of the replacement piece. Sand the top surfaces of the damaged section where the replacement piece will be installed.

5. Apply polyurethane construction adhesive to the underside of the patch and to the surface around the damaged area, then place the patch onto the corner post.

6. Place painter's tape on the corner post over the patch, and 2 inches above and beneath it, to hold the patch in place while the adhesive sets.

7. Remove the painter's tape after the adhesive has set.
